The past couple of weeks we’ve had reports  both in  our office here at Coldwell Banker Commercial, and our competitors of  huge increases in telephone inquiries on Commercial Real Estate properties.

With  the other outpouring of what seems ominous bad news, layoffs by many companies, and of course the now iconic shut down of the Twinkie factory , we’ve been surprised at this uptick in activity.

To determine the cause of the trend , we designed a detailed survey for  our  support staff to use when  these calls come in. We are trying to determine if this is harbinger of good things to come in the Commercial Real Estate market and perhaps for the entire economy here inSW Washington.

After several days we now have the answer!

99 % of callers said they had never noticed OUR signs on our properties before November 7.  They had seen a massive jumble of campaign signs that totally absorbed their attention.   Now however the distractions have been removed.

There has been another change in theClarkCounty– Portland Metro area that occurred just before the election.   Both 620 KPOJ and 1550 KKOV have changed their formats from political talk radio programming

This may have been prompted by an overwhelming need to shut down the election overload, or simply, no talk shows ever actually have interesting conversations anymore, they just spew their point of view.  Clearly few were listening, and fewer were buying advertising.

Anyway KPOJ is now a sports talk station.  So glad we have a fourth one now, and KKOV 1550 programs music that sounds like Muzak.   Probably the cheapest programming they could get.  I miss Micheal Medved, Hugh Hewitt and Tom Hartman who I at least felt tried to be educational.
