Friday night, November 2nd Loowit Brewing had a grand opening party to show off their new digs down on Columbia just south of 6th street. They are directly east from the Hilton, and share a building with Torque coffee.
The open house started at 4:00. I arrived about twenty to 5:00. The place was packed, probably 150 people, most all of them tasting some of Loowit’s Walking Red and Shadow Ninja IPA. More continued to arrive all during my time there. They also have a Lucid Golden Ale on tap there at the brewery and Extraterrestrial ESB they serve up at Kiggins Theater.
Tomas Poffenroth and Devon Bray have been working on getting situated the space since last spring, Both have been home brewers for about eight years. They’ve installed a small seven barrel system.
With By the Bottle having taken over management of Salmon Creek Brew pub, Mt Tabor Brewing expanding their hours and the solid following that Main Event has, the lower downtown area beer scene has really started to light up.
Keep your eyes peeled for another new addition to the brewing scene at Evergreen and Broadway in the next few months. Loowit will be one of the ten breweries featured the weekend of December 7 and 8 at the inaugural Vancouver Winter Brewfest
