Saturday morning the 26th of April I attended a ribbon cutting at the Clark County YMCA over on 51st Ct. The facility has been here since May of 2000. For the past four years the Y has been in the midst of a capital campaign to raise 8.2 million dollars to add several new amenities to the building. A six lane lap pool, a walking track and new group exercise and community rooms were all vital components.
You can learn more from an article published this morning in the Columbian, and in this article published last year in the Vancouver Business Journal.
The construction project took roughly one year to complete and was executed in superb fashion by RSV Building Solutions. Sincere appreciation to Ron Fredericksen and Debbie Marcoulier. Preceding the construction was an ongoing capital campaign, initially headed by Westby and Associates who helped guide the Y team through application for a Washington State capital grant with the help and support of Senator Don Benton and the entire County legislative contingent.
With much support and work from Rick and Carol Terrel who provided the first “major gift” and steady leadership from Terry Fredericksen and Scott Campbell of the Clark Family YMCA board the 8.2 million needed for completion is just within reach.
Executive Director Eddie White and his team ( which is expanding all the time now ) are owed many kudos for keeping spirits and service levels high during the project and now are at the starting line of an entire new range of opportunities to be of service to Orchards and East Clark County with their many programs that build healthy spirit mind and body for all.
